Texterz vs Botpress: Honest Agency Comparison

Botpress is a serious bot-building studio. But for agencies reselling to clients, the May 2026 pricing and widget-only white-label change the math fast.

Texterz Team·September 10, 2026

Botpress is a capable bot-building studio, probably the deepest one you can buy. If you build one bot for your own company, you can stop reading here and just use it.

This page is for the other case: you run an agency, the bot is a product you resell to ten clients, and you need to know what that does to your costs and your client experience. On those two points the Botpress model works against you, and we can show it with their own pricing page.

What Botpress Gets Right

The visual flow studio gives you more control over conversation logic than anything else in this category: custom code inside flows, branching that actually holds up in complex cases, and a large integration ecosystem. The community is big, the docs are good.

There is also an open-source core. If you have the engineering capacity to self-host and maintain your own deployment, nobody locks you in.

None of that is the problem. The problem starts with the invoice.

Where the Ceiling Shows Up

1. The May 2026 Pricing Cliff

In May 2026, Botpress restructured its pricing for new workspaces. The Plus plan now costs $150/month on annual billing and includes 250 conversations per month. After that, every additional 100 conversations cost $65. That is $0.65 per conversation.

A moderately busy client burns through 250 conversations in a week. At 1,000 conversations a month you are paying $150 base plus roughly $487 in overage for that one workspace, before any margin. The better your client's bot performs, the more you pay.

Two honest footnotes: workspaces created before May 14, 2026 keep the older pricing, and $150 is the annual-billing rate. Neither helps you if you are signing up today.

Texterz charges $99/month base, $50 per active sub-tenant seat, and pay-as-you-go credits for AI usage, with 4,500 credits included. There is no per-conversation meter, so a busy client stays profitable.

2. White-Label Stops at the Widget

On Botpress Cloud, white-label means removing the "powered by" badge and styling the chat widget. What it does not mean: a rebrandable dashboard your client logs into, your domain on the platform, or your billing on the invoice.

In practice that means the only thing your client ever sees under your brand is the chat widget. When a client wants to check their conversations, update the knowledge base, or look at analytics, they either sit in your Botpress workspace with Botpress branding on the screen, or they email you and you do it for them.

The open-source route technically allows full rebranding, but then you are hosting, patching, and scaling the infrastructure yourself. That is a product engineering commitment, not an agency workflow.

Texterz white-label is the platform, not the widget. Clients log into ai.youragency.com, the dashboard carries your logo, emails come from your domain, and you bill through your own Stripe account. There is no Texterz origin in any request your client's developer will ever inspect.

3. One Workspace Is Not Multi-Tenancy

Botpress organizes work into workspaces and bots. For an agency, that means client separation is a folder structure you maintain, not an infrastructure boundary the platform enforces.

Texterz provisions every sub-tenant into its own isolated database at creation. Client A cannot leak into Client B's bot because the two never share a data layer. When a client's lawyer asks how their data is separated, you point at the architecture instead of at a policy document.

4. The Stack Around the Bot

Botpress ends at the conversation. The lead still has to land in a separate CRM, follow-ups run in a separate automation tool, and human handoff happens in a shared inbox. Each of those is another subscription and another sync job that can silently break.

Texterz keeps the bot, the CRM record, the automation trigger, and the human takeover in one system. A phone number captured on WhatsApp is a CRM contact in the same request. A qualification threshold fires an automation in the same database that holds the conversation. There is also an MCP server, so external agents like Claude Code can read CRM data and trigger automations without a custom integration.

When Botpress Stays the Right Answer

  • You are building one sophisticated bot for your own company and need deep flow control with custom code in the conversation logic.
  • You have engineers and want the open-source, self-hosted route with full ownership.
  • Conversation volume is low and predictable, so the per-conversation meter never bites.
  • You are not reselling. Nobody but your own team ever needs a dashboard.

For that kind of work, Botpress is a strong tool and switching would gain you little.

Migration: Knowledge Bases Move in an Afternoon

Botpress lets you export your knowledge sources and flows. The knowledge side moves cleanly:

  1. Export each bot's knowledge sources (URLs, documents, text).
  2. Create one sub-tenant per client in Texterz.
  3. Upload the sources into the client's knowledge bucket. Embeddings build in the background.
  4. Point the channel (widget embed, WhatsApp number, Telegram bot) at the new agent.
  5. Run both bots in parallel for a week and compare answers before cutting over.

Complex custom-coded flows do not transfer one-to-one; they are rebuilt in the Texterz automation builder. For typical support and lead-capture bots, a 10-client portfolio migrates in about a day of focused work plus the parallel week.

FAQ

Is Botpress free for commercial use?

The open-source core can be self-hosted and used commercially, but you carry the hosting, maintenance, and scaling yourself. Botpress Cloud has a free tier with tight limits; real client traffic lands you on the paid plans and their per-conversation billing.

Can I white-label Botpress for my agency clients?

On Botpress Cloud you can remove the widget branding and style the widget. There is no rebrandable client dashboard, no custom platform domain, and no way to bill clients through your own merchant account. Full rebranding requires self-hosting the open-source version.

What does Botpress cost at 1,000 conversations per month?

On the post-May-2026 Plus plan: $150/month base (annual billing) covering 250 conversations, plus $65 per additional 100 conversations. At 1,000 conversations that is roughly $637/month for one workspace.

How long does migrating from Botpress to Texterz take?

Knowledge bases export and re-upload cleanly; plan about a day of focused work for a 10-client portfolio, plus a one-week parallel run. Complex custom-coded flows are rebuilt in the Texterz automation builder rather than imported.

The Bottom Line

Botpress is a bot-building studio, and a good one. Texterz is a platform for running an agency on top of: isolated client tenants, a white-label dashboard your clients log into, native CRM and automations, and pricing where a busy client is margin instead of overage.

If you resell AI to 3 to 15 clients, run your own numbers against the overage table above, then test the difference on real traffic. The 14-day Reverse Trial includes 4,500 credits and the full platform, no card required.
